Privacy Policy

Applies to: Boondockr for iOS  ·  Effective: 23 October 2026  ·  Developer: Anchori Intel

The short version: your journal stays yours. The spots, photos, notes and ratings you log are kept on your device, and in your own private iCloud if you use Boondockr Pro sync. If you choose to join the community (following other campers and sharing spots), we store your profile, who you follow, and the spots you decide to share, on a server we run. Sharing is always your choice, one spot at a time, and only after you've moved on. We never sell data, never show ads, and run no analytics. You can delete your community account at any time from inside the app.

1. Who We Are

Boondockr is developed by Anchori Intel, a sole-trader app studio operated by Stuart McMillan, registered in Australia (ABN 51 277 394 323). Questions about this policy: hello@boondockrgear.com.

2. Your Journal (On Your Device)

Everything you log in your journal stays on your device: the spots you record (name, coordinates, arrival and departure dates, stay limit, cell signal, road and level ratings, star ratings and amenities), the photos you attach, and your notes. It is stored with Apple's SwiftData. None of it is sent to us unless you explicitly share a spot (section 4).

3. The Community (Optional)

You can use Boondockr without ever joining the community. If you choose to join:

4. Sharing a Spot

You can share a spot only after you've recorded that you've left it, so your live location is never exposed. When you share a spot, we store:

Photos, amenities, and your arrival and departure dates are not shared. A shared spot is visible to you and to the people who follow you, and not to people you've blocked. Followers can save a copy to their own journal. You can unshare a spot at any time, which removes it from our server (copies other campers already saved to their own devices are theirs to keep). Before sharing, check the spot's notes for anything you'd rather keep private.

5. Where Community Data Is Stored

Community data (section 3 and 4) is stored with our database provider, Supabase, in its Sydney, Australia region. Access is restricted so that people only see what this policy describes. Your private journal and photos are never stored there.

6. Location

Boondockr uses your device location when you tag a spot and to show where you are on the map. It is never tracked in the background, and your location leaves the device only as part of a spot you choose to share. If you never grant location access, you can still log spots manually.

7. Maps and Outdoor Data

To draw the map and its layers, Boondockr requests map tiles and public outdoor data for the area you're viewing from these services: Mapbox and OpenStreetMap (map tiles), the U.S. Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service (public land and motor-vehicle-use maps), the OpenStreetMap Overpass service (campsite listings), and ArcGIS (wildfire perimeters). Where weather is shown for a spot, it comes from Apple Weather using that spot's location. These requests include the map area or spot location, and, like any internet request, your device's IP address. They do not include your name, account or journal. Each provider handles requests under its own privacy policy.

8. Photos

Photos you attach to a spot stay on your device, and in your own iCloud if you enable sync. They are never uploaded to our server and are not included when you share a spot. Boondockr only reads the photos you explicitly pick or capture.

9. iCloud Sync and Backup (Boondockr Pro)

If you subscribe to Boondockr Pro and enable sync, your journal is stored in your private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit, so it backs up and syncs across your devices. This is your iCloud, not ours; we cannot read it. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

10. Subscriptions

Boondockr Pro is an auto-renewing subscription sold through Apple's App Store. Purchases and renewals are handled entirely by Apple using StoreKit; Anchori Intel never sees your payment details. We use no third-party subscription or purchase SDK.

11. What We Never Do

12. Your Rights and Choices

You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your community data, including any reports you've made, by emailing hello@boondockrgear.com. We will respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may have further rights under local privacy law.

13. Data Retention

Community data is kept while your community account exists, and is deleted when you delete your account or unshare a spot. Your journal stays on your device, and in your iCloud, until you delete it, uninstall the app or erase the device.

14. Community Standards

Joining the community means agreeing to our community terms in the app. Objectionable content can be reported from any shared spot, users can be blocked, and we review reports promptly.

15. Children

The community is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has created a community account, contact us and we will delete it.

16. International Users

Boondockr is built in Australia and operates under Australian privacy law, including the Australian Privacy Principles. Community data is stored in Australia. If you use the community from outside Australia, your community data is transferred to and stored in Australia.

17. Changes to This Policy

If we change this policy materially, we will update the date at the top of this page and note the change in the next app update's release notes. This version (23 October 2026) adds the optional community features introduced in Boondockr 1.8.

18. Contact

We read every email and reply personally.
